Surprise Yourself | Rhyming Couplet

Surprise yourself with your courage and resilience.
Be wowed by your gutsiness, not to mention your brilliance.
Surprise yourself with your smartness and clear-sighted vision.
Know that your wisdom shines through with each big decision.
Surprise yourself with your talent and skill.
Take strength from your indomitable spirit and will.

Surprise yourself with your hope and irrepressible joy.
Believe in the power of the goodness you deploy.
Surprise yourself with your compassion and care.
Feel proud of the generosity and love that you share.
Surprise yourself with your energy and your might.
Celebrate your determination and your fight.
Surprise yourself knowing that you will go far.
Because you can’t see what others can – just how awesome you are.

Self Belief – Finding Hope and Resilience

Amid uncertainty, conflict, or loss, finding hope can be a challenging task. However, when we feel hopeless we can seek solace and inspiration in the words of others. Hope goes beyond mere optimism and possesses an enigmatic, delicate, and elusive nature. Hope is something we must nurture and cultivate, but it is also a gift bestowed upon us, much like faith. By embracing hope, we can develop resilience and determination, enabling us to bounce back and persevere in the face of failures and setbacks. This poem celebrates the significance of hope and resilience in our lives and acts as a rallying cry, urging individuals to embrace their inner strength and trust in their own abilities.

Queering The Shelves Book Festival

I first read my rhyming couplet poem Surprise Yourself at Queering The Shelves Book Festival 2022 | Speaking Out – Bringing Words to Life.

The event was sponsored by the Art’s Council and the fabulous comedian Rosie Wilby read from her funny and thought-provoking book The Breakup Monologues, which is an inspirational love letter to her breakups and a celebration of what they have taught her.

The event was hosted by Global Wordsmiths who also run writing workshops, editing services and writing retreats.
